Spot welding is a form of electric resistance welding. Heat generated by electric current and the resistance it meets performs the welding at the joint points of two metal parts.
To join two metal sheets, heat and resistance are applied simultaneously, point by point, at their meeting line using shaped copper-alloy electrodes. In terms of strength it is one of the most frequently preferred methods.
Spot welding is highly efficient: metal sheets 0.5–3 mm thick are welded with ease. Because heat and resistance are applied for only milliseconds, the material is never exposed to prolonged heat — preventing melting, distortion and weld failure. Electrode pressure, heat and time work in parallel; the process is extremely fast and virtually instantaneous.
