Unlike brazing and soldering, which do not melt the base metal, welding is a high-heat process that melts the base material — typically with the addition of a filler material. The high temperature produces a weld pool of molten material which cools to form a joint that can be stronger than the base metal itself. Pressure can also be used alongside heat, or on its own, to produce a weld.
